“Synergies” Introduction The main ideas introduced by Baobab Association during our meeting in Genova, as inputs for the Toolkit for Training Professionals are: Definition of the evaluation model to follow on recognition of competences through the internships in companies. Definition of specific evaluation strategy for validation of competences of disadvantaged groups with low basic skills.

One of the most general recommendations that we have reached during the Project research is the need to make the validation processes cheaper and more accessible. One of the problems of the existing models for validation of competences is that they are intensive in time of work by the part of the evaluators, and this makes the process expensive. One solution could be the involvement of the companies in the process of recognition of competences, during the internships of students who want to get their competences recognized. Definition of the evaluation model would be a crucial process to set up the recognition of competences through internships in companies.

Research of the professional families and professions more demanded by the users in terms of validation of competences. Compilation of the competences and evaluation criteria of the different units of competence and training modules, established by the Royal Decrees (Spain) that develop the concrete Certificates of Professionalism. Definition of the competences corresponding to the Certificate of Professionalism that can be validated through internships in companies (companies and professionals should take part). Meeting with companies to define the items to include in the templates for evaluation, and the number of hours needed to validate each concrete competence. Elaboration of the evaluation reports.

One of the characteristics of some disadvantaged groups is that the recognition and validation of their competences is difficult, considering their low basic skills. On the other hand, these is one of the target groups that needs more the validation of their competences obtained through informal and non-formal learning because they often need to improve their employability. The main difficulty with this target group is that normally they have lost their habits of study and they are not used to pass exams. We have found in our research that this target group would need different evaluation strategy observing their particular needs.

Elaboration of an evaluation strategy document with concrete examples and recommendation for the validation of competences of people with low basic skills (professionals should validate this document).

“Synergies” “M.E.I.N.” Project 2008 Wuppertal Proposal: Even though both ideas bring up interesting subjects to improve the existing processes of validation of competences, we believe that according to the characteristics of the Synergies project, the first idea is too much ambitious and it is not realistic to develop in this project (maybe could be an idea for a new project). So, we propose to develop the second idea, and the contribution of Baobab to the toolkit would be: The elaboration of an evaluation strategy document with concrete examples and recommendation for the validation of competences of people with low basic skills
