Spurs claim recently waived Sixers G Julian Champagnie off waivers

The Philadelphia 76ers made a move just before the All-Star break when they waived Julian Champagnie in order to make room for Mac McClung on the roster as they signed McClung to a two-way deal.

Champagnie played in just two games for the Sixers before being waived as he spent most of his season in the G League with the Delaware Blue Coats. There was no clear path for Champagnie to earn more playing time.

In the middle of a rebuild, the San Antonio Spurs swooped in and claimed Champagnie off waivers. The Spurs now offer him a chance to develop and earn the necessary court time he needs to become a rotational player in this league.

While in college at St. John’s, Champagnie averaged 19.2 points and shot 45.7% from the floor in his third collegiate season. While the Sixers couldn’t really offer him an opportunity to play, the Spurs open that door for him and now he just has to take advantage of the opportunity.
