These pretty flowers will start out with a subtle bicolor. As each bloom ages, those two colors become more and more pronounced. It's lovely to see in a big group in the garden, as the blooms all intensify in their own time, so there will be all different shades in the bunch. As most dahlias, Merlot Magic is a strong cut flower with a good vase life. The long, straight stems and big ball–shaped flower form make an easily eye–catching display in a front hall. While Merlot Magic can be grown in a container, it's a taller variety with nice, big flowers, you may have to support to keep upright. It would be better suited to a landscape, where staking wouldn't be so tricky and you could give those big blooms room to shine. Dahlia 'Merlot Magic'

- planting instructionsPlant tubers after all risk of frost is past in compost rich soil to allow for good drainage. Plant 6-8" deep and 18" apart. Plant tubers horizontally with new shoots (or 'eyes') facing upward. Cover with soil and water in well. Provide a deep watering 2-3 times a week through growing season, more in hot, dry weather.
