Flirting with nature in Columbia

Columbia’s wonderment lies in its natural vistas, and some of the best places to visit in the country, invariably, are its wonderful national parks and nature reserves. National parks in the country give travellers a peek into nature’s stunning beauty, making them paradise for bird-watchers and nature lovers. The topography is diverse, and its culture rich; so, while you are trying to get a hold of its cultural wonders, do take a look around its beautiful nature reserves and national parks as well.
Old Providence McBean Lagoon National Natural Park

One of the three national parks located in the Columbian Caribbean, this is going to mesmerise you, if nothing else. The island is known as The Sea of Seven Colours, and is a perfect spot for the romantic traveller. You will find three types of mangroves here, predominantly red mangrove, and a smaller population of black and white mangroves. The place hosts about 70 different species of birds, so do not forget to carry your binoculars.

Parque Nacional Natural Tayrona is located on the Caribbean coast, and is a place to lie back and relax. Here, the sandy beaches reach out to azure waters, as a thick rainforest pose at the background. You will find yourself in a Columbian paradise, with a range of animal species, which includes about 300 species of birds. Close to the natural park lies the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta that is the highest coastal mountain range in the world.

Parque Nacional Natural Los Nevados

Sitting on the Cordillera Central of the Colombian Andes, this is a spectacular place to see Columbia’s natural vistas. Los Nevados is so delicate that 37 rivers are born right here, and nature of course looks at its best. You will find volcanic peaks covered with snow, and cloud forests that lead to some enchanting glaciers located high up on the peaks. This is quite a nice location for a trekking excursion, but certainly not when it snows.

Cano Cristales

Words cannot express how beautiful Cano Cristales really is. It is basically a river in Columbia, and translates to Crystal Channel in English. It is also known as the River of Five Colours. Many even call it “liquid rainbow,” owing to its colourful river bed. So, you have various colours forming on the bed of the river, namely, yellow, green, blue, black, and red. The latter is, of course, mostly prominent from afar. Being located close to the Andes, Amazon rainforest, and Eastern Llanos, the flora and fauna here is unparalleled as you get the best of all the three worlds.

Kasaguadua Natural Reserve

If you happen to be in the Columbian town of Salento, you must visit Kasaguadua Natural Reserve. The rainforest here extends 29 acres, and is home to five natural springs. With a thriving flora and fauna, the natural reserve is a place you must visit if you want to get a closer look of the abundant nature here. The region is also mostly known as a coffee growing region, so you could visit coffee plantations as well. You have guided hikes through this land that you can opt for, and get an educative experience of the whole thing.
