Good walk from Balkello car park first up Auchterhouse Hill then up Balkello Hill then finally up Craigowl. Great views on what could have been a washout day but turned rather pleasant instead contrary to what the weatherman said.

Parked near gate and walked up road which is steep and passed what look like grouse butts On the way down I spotted a rivet with a cut mark on a grouse butt and on closer inspection found two more grouse butts totaling three all with Rivets and cut marks ( There might be more )

Easy walk up mast track to summit. Great views of the surrounding area. Only saw one other person. Bagged Dundee Law trig and monument earlier that day.

From CP to SW. There are remains of a makeshift stile into the compound with the trig at NO 3772 3997 Good paths continue to Balkello and Auchterhouse Hills (both Tumps) and very much recommended. Excellent walk

Despite passing by often, finally made it up here. Marilyn no.4 and first jaunt up the Sidlaws. Easy climb from Balkello Woods via Auchterhouse and Balluderon Hills. Trig between fenced off areas, good views to Dundee and mountains despite the surrounding clutter. Up and down quick enough to be abled to head west to climb King's Seat on same morning.

The pillar has some slight cracking low-down on its southern side, plus some fading graffiti; also its cap is missing and has not been filled in. Cluttered mast-filled top. Was this once an Iron Age hillfort? There appears to be a surrounding ditch about 50 yards below the summit.

lost count of the amount of times I have told the daughter I am going to get up early in the morning and bag this trig,the plan this time was to watch the sunrise from the top,abit late for that but I made it none the less,very cold and a snow flurry as I was on the top took away the views but it was a great little walk.also my 1st scottish marilyn. UPDATE 4/01/10. I have been informed by those that know that Arthurs seat is a Marilyn so this is now my 2nd Scottish marilyn.

vgc, no cap or plug, painted white, graffitied. On grassy summit, easily accessed although surrounded by 3 comms compounds. The tarmac access road has gained a fancy gate and a somewhat drunken looking stile since my last visit.

Followed the route in the guide:-Dundee Walks by James Carron starting at Balkaello Community Wood. takes in the hill Fort site before climbing to the cairn on Balluderon Hill, erected in the memory of Sid Scroggie, who despite loosing his sight and part of his leg during WW2 pursued a passion for the great outdoors. The masts on Craigowl hill are the next landmark with the trig sandwiched between two compounds, excellent views over Dundee and the Firth of Tay

A hill I had visited many times as part of work on the radio towers but only visited the trig whilst travelling back from Aberdeen after a Munro weekend. Quite an impressive hill with good views over towards Dundee and also up into the Highlands.

Made my ears burn..... Between two mast enclosures and uncomfortable.. Was getting the mother of all "mobile headaches" Just like a traditional Irish cooking hill (Irish marilyn baggers know about microwaves). Away from the masts the views are fine, especially down on to Dundee. Great wildlife on the journey over.. Merlin and an unidentified but exiting hawk. Loads of Curlews on the hill, that was once a drive up.. not now.. you have to slog the tarmac.

Revisit. Trig pillar in good condition and recently repainted. Spider retained an OS centre plug which has since been stolen. Flush bracket faces northwest. I have been here twice. On both occasions, the fog has been a pea souper. However, the view should be good, you can see this hill from miles around.

First visit. To record FB number. HISTORY: The pillar was completed 8th September 1936 costing £12.16s.0d. Computed for triangulation as primary station PP353 in figure 3 of the OSGB primary network during 1937. The flush bracket was levelled for height to first class precision, tertiary standards in 1971. This trig point was last maintained by the OS in October 1981. SITE VISIT: Highest point in the Sidlaw Hills.
