Twilight Actor Alex Meraz Joins Suicide Squad

It looks as though ‘Twilight’ meets the DC universe, as Alex Meraz joins ‘Suicide Squad’.

According to Variety, the 30-year-old actor has landed a role in the upcoming ‘Suicide Squad’ movie… but who will he be playing?

“Alex Meraz has joined the cast of Warner Bros. and DC’s ‘Suicide Squad’,” they revealed. “David Ayer is directing the [film]. Meraz’s role is unknown.”

Of course, Alex Meraz is perhaps best known as Paul from the ‘Twilight’ series – a volatile shape-shifter who bursts into his wolf form and tries to attack Bella after she finds out about his pack.

He’s also appeared in a number TV shows – including a stint on ‘CSI: NY’ – and was even in the running for a role in the Mel Gibson-directed adventure flick, ‘Apocalypto’.

But perhaps most importantly, he’s an accomplished martial artist.

Could this play into his ‘Suicide Squad’ role? Although there are currently no details about who he’ll be playing, some fans have already jumped to the conclusion that he may appear as the oft-rumoured character, Deathstroke.

Although with Jim Parrack dropping hints that he may be donning the iconic mask, it really doesn’t seem likely.

So who will Alex Meraz play?

I can’t help thinking that it could be anyone from a miscellaneous hired thug up to a more important, named part. Of course, he may well end up playing one of DC’s iconic villains, but with the roster looking pretty packed already, I get the feeling there may not be room for another big name.

But for now, we’ll have to wait and see.

‘Suicide Squad’ heads to cinemas on 5 August 2016.
