ARLINGTON, Texas — In the only undefeated matchup of the Texas UIL State Championship week, the Bremond beat Iraan 49-20, in the 2A Division II title game.

It was Bremond’s eighth state championship under coach Jeff Kasowski – ninth overall – and third in a row.

“We kept finding a way to evolve,” Kasowski said. “A player would step up here and there. We’d just win.”

Texas A&M commit Roshauud Paul finished his high school career 47-0 as a starter with 12,876 total yards. The dual-threat QB who likely will start to wide receiver in college rushed for 239 yards and five touchdowns, and threw for another score.

“It’s amazing to cement my legacy in Texas high school football history,” Paul said. “It’s an amazing feeling.”

Bremond finished 16-0.

The game started with a fourth-and-3 turnover, where Paul was spun down at the 2-yard line. Frustrated, he stood and began shouting at his ineffective offensive line.

The motivation seemed to be effective. During the next drive, Paul threw to Joe Williams for a quick score. The first quarter saw Paul bottled up in the middle by the Braves’ 5-2 defensive scheme. Instead, he fed the run game to Kaidyn Peralez, opening up the outside routes. The half ended with Iraan within scoring distance of the lead 21-14, but Bremond finished the second half on a 28-14 run.

“Iraan was very physical coming in,” Kasowski said. “We knew we had to match that physicality. At halftime, we were either going to have to set the tone, or they were going to set the tone on us in terms of being physical. I think we answered the bell.”

A Tigers team – that limited eight teams to 10 points or fewer this season – adapted well to the Iraan option offense, holding the Braves to less than 30 points for the first time this season. The defensive backfield rendered Iraan quarterback Clayton Kent’s passing game nonexistent, holding the receivers to a mere 26 yards through the air.

Bremond currently holds the longest active winning streak in Texas, the sixth longest in state history and is tied for the fifth longest active 11-man streak in the nation.

“I just wanted to win and keep that streak alive,” Paul said. “Not only for me and my teammates, but for my community. Without them, this wouldn’t be possible.”
