As the first joint project with the Fiware Foundation, Virtual City Systems has built a Digital Twin for the municipality of Borchen-Etteln and has already implemented the first topics. The demo is an example of what is already possible for small and medium-sized municipalities with manageable effort. Particularly interesting is the cooperation with other partners for individual innovative applications.

In the interactive web-based map application, users have access to a variety of basic VC Map functions. The underlying 3D city model is based on the official and comprehensive geodata of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. The application was enriched with a high-resolution meshmodel from SV Geosolutions, which at the same time allows a query of semantic building information, such as address and use.

Based on the Orion Context Broker and Fiware’s NGSI interface, Hypertegrity has built a sensor infrastructure that allows quick and easy integration into the VC Map. The first weather and climate sensors have already been integrated into the Digital Twin via this service, with more to follow.

Other topics supported by the Digital Twin include the use of model sections for 3D printing, the integration of planning projects, such as the redesign of the village center by Brockmeyer Architekten, and the integration of high-resolution street and building scans by the company Allterra. Also completely new is the direct transfer and use of model sections in Unity and Unreal as a model basis for building VR applications.
