Pity that I could not find the deluxe edition with LoG's Laid to Rest. Nevertheless I wanted to add Elegy to my BC collection. It's unique as it is a delightful mix of symphony and deathcore. The vocals are just the perfect "5th element" that allows both styles to intertwine perfectly. Ben Duerr is the perfect vocalist for this role. The Elegy trilogy at the end is just the apotheose of death-gasm, it's a good trip down to memory lane as I've seen S.O.I. live last year!

Before Ashen, I thought they were overrated. Deathcore bands seem to have a capacity to evolve quickly. I’ve seen quite a few bands in this genre grow exponentially from one album to the next, and Ashen is a particularly strong example.

Mental Cruelty's third album has brought a surprise of musical change. While they kept some of their Slamming Deathcore music, other elements were mostly added that sounded Lorna Shore-esque: a haunting symphonic atmosphere and diabolical Black Metal melodies. I believe that this album attracts me more than their previous albums.
