Triennial Survey
OVERVIEW
The Triennial Survey provides information about the size and structure of the foreign exchange (FX) and Over-The-Counter (OTC) derivatives markets. The Bank for International Settlements (BIS) manages the triennial survey in consultation with central banks across the globe under the watch of the Markets Committee and the Committee on the Global Financial System.

How to retrieve data by example;
Scenario
Suppose you want to examine foreign exchange turnover by country from 1986 to 2022. You can identify which countries have shown the most significant growth in trading volumes.
Step-by-step
1. Visit The Bank for International Settlements website by clicking on https://www.bis.org/
2. Scroll down the page and click on "Statistics Explorer".
3. From the "Statistics Explorer", click on "Derivatives Statistics".
4. Scroll down to "Triennial Survey of FX and OTC derivatives trading". Below "Foreign exchange turnover", click on "by country, 1986-2022".
5. After clicking on "by country, 1986-2022", the tabular data will be displayed as seen here. You can also switch between tables by using the "tabs (two small rectangular boxes with blue text)" between the "menu bar" and "Turnover of OTC foreign exchange instruments, by country".
6. You can download the data in any format of your choice by using the "download" button at the top right corner of the window.
7. After downloading the data in Excel, this is how it looks. You may have to move forward with a different statistical or analytical tool such as python or R to do advanced analysis of the data.
