Covers social upheaval and migration and African American labor, education, mental development, politics, religious and missionary outreaches to the black community, and on Virginia's new democratic constitution. Taylor was also the first young black scholar to join Carter G. Woodson's research staff at the Association for the Study of Negro Life and History, where he served as a full-time investigator.
