This paper describes a new microscopic isopod species belonging to the asellotan genus Joeropsis. The holotype was collected alive from a polychaete colony in the intertidal region of Sandspit, Karachi. The species can be diagnosed on the basis of the following characters: a dome-shaped rostrum, a lightly armed pleotelson, having a submarginal setose ridge; an extended maxilliped basis and a cephalon covered with dark pigment in patches, The species will also be the first asellotan representative from Pakistan coast.

Allathelges pakistanensis, new genus, new species, is described as a parasite of Paguristes per-spicax near Karachi, Pakistan. Allathelges is distinguished from other athelgine genera by the following characters: female, head no longer than broad, oostegite 1 folded and extending well beyond head, all pereiopods evenly spaced, no posterolateral extension of oostegite 5, 5 pairs of bi-ramous pleopods, no uropods; male, head separated from pereion, pleonal margins not indicating fused pleomeres. Allathelges is most similar to Athelges from which it differs by having 5, not 4, pairs of biramous pleopods in the female. The other 4 known species of the Athelginae in the In-dian Ocean are reviewed. Anathelges mossambica and Athelges caudalis are so poorly known that it is uncertain whether their generic placements are correct; Athelges aegyptius was well described and correctly placed; and Athelges neotenuicaudis is reassigned to the genus Parathelges. Bopyrid parasites of hermit crabs belong to two subfamilies, the Pseudioninae, whose species occur in the branchial chambers of anomurans in general (and, much more rarely, of some thalassinideans and a few deep-water carideans) and the Athelginae, abdominal parasites restricted to the Paguroidea (Markham, 1986). Such parasites are only very poorly known in the Indian Ocean, there still being only five species recorded, each known only from its type specimen or type pair. The single pseudionine reported infesting a hermit crab in the Indian Ocean is Asymmetrione shiinoi Codreanu, Codreanu, and Pike, 1965, a parasite of Clibanarius sig-natus Heller in the Red Sea. Codreanu et al. (1965) described this species in fine detail as a subspecies of Asymmetrione asymmetrica (Shiino), and Markham (1975) raised its status to full species level. The four Indian Ocean species belonging to the Athelginae are here briefly reviewed. Since only two of the species were adequately described, and one of those was placed in the wrong genus, we are here reassigning it. Finally, there is a record so incomplete that it is uncertain whether it refers to a bopyrid isopod, a rhi-zocephalan barnacle, or something else: Steb-bing (1920) cited the observation of "para-sites" of Clibanarius virescens (Krauss) on the Indian Ocean coast of South Africa, a citation repeated without elaboration by Barnard (1950). Previous studies of the bopy-rid fauna of, have established the presence of five species in the Bopyrinae, three in the Pseudioninae, and two in the Orbioni-nae. This is the first Pakistani record of the Athelginae. MATERIALS AND METHODS As part of a continuing study of the marine biodiversity of Pakistan, collections of invertebrates are routinely identified at the Marine Reference Collection and Resource Centre (MRC). One of them, the diogenid hermit crab Paguristes perspicax (Nobili), carried a pair of adult bopyrid isopods attached to its abdomen, and there were epicaridium larvae in its water flow. Detailed examination of the parasites revealed that they belonged to an undescribed genus and species of the subfamily Athelgi-nae. Material collected was preserved and examined under dissecting and compound microscopes equipped with a drawing apparatus. SYSTEMATICS

Descriptions of Macrostylis antennamagnasp. n. and Macrostylis uniformissp. n. are presented with notes on intraspecific variability and sexual dimorphism. Macrostylis uniformissp. n. showes differences to Macrostylis antennamagnasp. n. in the length of the antenna 2, the shape of the pleotelson and length of uropods. The genus Desmostylis Brandt, 1992 (formerly including the two species Desmostylis obscurus Brandt, 1992 and Desmostylis gerdesi Brandt, 2002) is synonymised with the genus Macrostylis. Based on type material additional remarks and additions to the original descriptions are provided for both species. Results lead to following nomenclatorial changes: Macrostylis obscurus (Brandt, 1992), comb. n. and Macrostylis gerdesi (Brandt, 2002), comb. n. A setal nomenclature is proposed and the diagnosis for the family is revised.
