Heliopsis, Burning Hearts (Organic)

Heliopsis helianthoides var. scabra. Perennial in zones 3-9.

Fiery yellow 2-3″ daisy-like flowers with red centers sit atop dark purple foliage. When planted in blocks, Burning Hearts creates a sizable and beautiful seasonal hedge that dies back in the winter. A reliable perennial that grows to 4.5′ tall and 18″ wide. Pollinators, butterflies, and other beneficial insects are attracted to the flowers and once they’re done, birds enjoy feasting on the seeds. Good cut flower that blooms prolifically from June through October. Easy to grow in a wide range of soils, relatively drought tolerant once established, and resistant to deer and rabbits. This species is native to eastern and central North America. Aka, false sunflower, rough oxeye, smooth oxeye.
