Eric García is a man reborn after a very successful loan spell at Girona, and the surprise package of this La Liga season want to make sure they’ll keep the Barcelona defender in their ranks for a lot longer than just one campaign.

That’s according to Relevo, who report that Girona have made it a priority to sign García on a permanent transfer from Barça this summer and are willing to pay as much as €20 million to make the defender their record signing.

Girona executives see Eric as a crucial piece of their European project for next season and beyond, and believe the 23-year-old is at the perfect age to become a building block for the club’s future.

After a couple of difficult years at Barça where he failed to play consistent minutes for the first team Eric has been one of the most impressive defenders in La Liga this season both as a center-back and a full-back, and his excellent passing skills and improved defensive play are a crucial part of Míchel Sánchez’s system.

Girona believe they can convince Eric to stay at the club and that Barça will welcome the cash injection considering their financial troubles, and formal negotiations will begin as soon as the season ends.
