Detached four-bay one and a half-storey gate lodge, built c.1870. The house is constructed in ashlar granite. To the south side of the east elevation there is projecting gabled porch; the original door has been removed. The front door is now set within a later flat-roofed porch with a flat-headed opening. Window openings have stone surrounds and are flat-headed with lattice paned timber casement frames. The pitched roof is finished with natural slate and has cast-iron rainwater goods. The chimneystack has a chamfered coping and clay pots. The house is slightly set back behind a large gate screen with square pillars with tall pyramidal caps and wrought-iron gates.
The original front door was blocked and a new door and porch added but despite this the building is in very good and original condition. It is slightly unusual for the gate lodge of a large house to appear within a village and this adds something to its rarity. It adds variety as well as quality to the streetscape.
