LANGHORNE, PA – The Cairn University Athletic Department, in coordination with the Cairn University Alumni Relations Office, and Women's & Men's basketball teams welcomed alumni from near and far back to the Mason Activity Center on Wednesday night for the doubleheader United East Skye Division matchup with the Clarks Summit University Defenders.

Former Cairn Highlanders, Philadelphia Biblical University Crimson Eagles, and Philadelphia College of Bible Crusaders were in attendance including the 1972-73 PCB Crusaders Men's Basketball team for the 50th anniversary of their NACC Championship title and third place district finish.

Of the 1972-73 team, 1,000 point scorer Bob Bell was in attendance alongside teammates John Schlegel, Mark Isselee, Toby Aungst, Jon Yoder, Tom Lamborn, Dave "Gunk" Allan, Jerry Brush, Dean McConaghay, and Mark Morrison. The team was honored at halftime of the Men's Basketball game with a gift in partnership with the Alumni Relations Office.

After an excellent regular season in 1972-73, the Philadelphia College of Bible Crusaders were set to square up with Clarks Summit University, formerly known as Baptist Bible College, in the NACC league championship game. The Crusaders emerged with a hard-fought one point victory, securing a league championship and sending them

on their way to the district tournament, where they finished third. The night was fitting, as the now Cairn Highlanders took on Clarks Summit, formerly Baptist Bible College, defeating Clarks Summit 74-52 (WBB) and 80-69 (MBB) in front of the former PCB players.

Former Crusader guard Jon Yoder ('74) remarked: "The most impressive thing about the game was the energy of the players, they played with passion and energy from the beginning to the end of the game. A second best thing was watching the game with my teammates from 50 plus years ago." Yoder also enjoyed meeting some of the current players and members of the coaching staff. Former forward Tom Lamborn ('74) enjoyed seeing his teammates again, some of which he hadn't seen since graduating. He also mentioned; "I guess I should say that it was good to see Cairn (PCB) beat Clark Summit (Baptist Bible College)!!"

Dick Lamborn ('71) was also in attendance. He was a senior when most of the players on the championship team were freshmen at PCB. Lamborn was impressed by the Highlanders as well as "how fast the play goes up and down the court.  Because of the 3-point line, plays are different than when we played, trying to work the ball in for a higher percentage shot."

We're thankful for the legacy these men have left in the history of Cairn athletics during their time at PCB and how they have paved the way for the success of our current Highlander athletes.
