Overview

Compared to Mini's more petite models, the Countryman SUV looks downright plus-sized. While it's the brand's biggest model, it's still considered a small SUV even if the new 2025 Countryman features a more spacious interior than before. The new Countryman stays true to Mini's traditional styling cues but its freshened styling is updated for the modern era. The interior is more modern too, with sustainable materials, a fabric-trimmed dashboard, a circular infotainment display, and simplified controls. The 2025 Countryman rides on the same platform as the BMW X1, and it shares that SUV's 241-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four engine; all-wheel drive—which Mini calls All4—is standard. Mini also sells an EV model as well as a high-performance John Cooper Works variant, both of which we review separately.

What's New for 2025?

The Mini Countryman has been fully redesigned for the 2025 model year and will go on sale in spring 2024.

Pricing and Which One to Buy

The price of the 2025 Mini Countryman starts at $39,895.

While the previous-generation model was offered in base, S, and plug-in hybrid SE trims, so far the new Countryman has only been shown in S All4 guise. Mini hasn't released a comprehensive list of equipment for the Countryman S yet, but we know that it will come standard with a 9.4-inch round OLED infotainment display, ambient interior lighting, and 19-inch wheels.

    Engine, Transmission, and Performance

While it's possible other trims could be offered later, including a front-wheel drive variant, the Countryman S is the only one available at launch. The Countryman S All4 is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 241 horsepower. A seven-speed dual-clutch automatic is likely the only transmission offered, as this is the only choice in the BMW X1 and the Countryman JCW. Like those models, the Countryman S will also have all-wheel drive as standard. Mini says this powertrain is powerful enough to motivate the Countryman S to 60 mph in 6.5 seconds, but we'll test that claim for ourselves when we get a chance and update this story with driving impressions and test results. Maximum towing capacity is 3500 pounds.

      Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG

Neither the EPA nor Mini has released fuel-economy estimates for the Countryman yet, but we're expecting it to earn similar estimates as the X1. That model is rated for 23 mpg city and 31 mpg highway. When we get a chance, we'll take the Countryman on our 75-mph highway fuel economy route and update this story with its real-world mpg. For more information about the Countryman Electric's fuel economy, visit the EPA's website.

        Interior, Comfort, and Cargo

Mini's cheeky design theme continues into the Countryman's interior. A fabric panel covers most of the dashboard and cleverly hides LED lighting elements that illuminate on startup and change color and shape depending on which drive mode you select. Finishings are playful but premium and secondary controls are kept to a minimum. Passenger space is generous in the front seat and adults of all sizes will have no trouble getting comfortable. The rear seat is less roomy, but still far more spacious than what you'll find in the brand's Cooper hatchback, and all but the tallest individuals will be fine for road-tripping from the second row.

        Infotainment and Connectivity

All 2025 Countryman models come with a cool 9.4-inch circular infotainment display. This OLED panel is high-definition and glossy, and the interface—Mini's latest Operating System 9—offers some unique features such as the ability to upload your own photos to use as a background. There are plenty of other customization features too, and in-dash navigation, wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and an on-board Wi-Fi hotspot are all standard.

        Safety and Driver-Assistance Features

While all Countryman models will come with driver-assistance features such as automated emergency braking and lane-keeping assist, if you want to access adaptive cruise control with a lane-centering feature you'll need to spring for the Driving Assistant Plus package. For more information about the Countryman's crash-test results, visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) websites. Key safety features include:

          • Standard automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection
          • Standard lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist
          • Available adaptive cruise control with a lane-centering feature

          Warranty and Maintenance Coverage

Mini provides one of the better warranty plans compared with its competitors, and the company also includes substantial complimentary scheduled maintenance.

          • Limited warranty covers four years or 50,000 miles
          • Powertrain warranty covers four years or 50,000 miles
          • Complimentary maintenance is covered for three years or 36,000 miles
