RHS Perfect for pollinatorsAttractive to pollinatorsPerfect for cutting
The only problem with the splendid Sunflower is its single-minded desire, nature's answer to Challenger, to grow straight up making for the heavens and leaving it not the easiest plant to place aesthetically in the border. This fine novelty is the answer. 'Holiday' forms stately, spherical bushes, about 4ft across (you won't need many plants to fill a border!), bearing numerous, very long strong-stemmed, golden-yellow Sunflowers, 6ins across, ideal for cutting to bring sunshine indoors or (and there are not that many plants that can do both) for leaving on the plant for spectacular garden decoration. 4ft (1.2m)

Surely a plant that needs no introduction. Worthy of a place in any garden and a favourite for children to grow. Incidentally, an ideal plant to grow in a large clump at the foot of large trees or near the edge of a pool. They are surprisingly tolerant of partial shade. There are now also plenty of varieties that are great for cutting – big and dramatic and, of particular interest to the writer – no skill required for arranging! Just stick them in a (large) vase.
