Hybrid, repeat-blooming, perennial daylilies are manmade cultivars in the Hemerocallis genus that evolved in Asia. Varieties are bred for size, floor flower form and disease resistance.
Siloam Double Classic is a popular hybrid daylily that does well in Central Florida with its torrid, humid, hot summers. Irrigation is necessary during Florida’s dry springs until the summer rains arrive in June. Once established, daylilies are drought tolerant and generally pest- and disease-free.
Daylilies can look great in a mass planting. While each flower lasts just one day, each flower stem or scape has many buds that open at the same day or in succeeding days. One bloom period may last three to six weeks. Many modern hybrids are repeat bloomers, and some are everblooming from spring to early fall.

Daylilies have been hybridized extensively from the original Asian Hemerocallis plants to produce desirable, disease-resistant, deciduous or evergreen or semi-evergreen, and repeat-blooming varieties for the nursery trade.
Each flower lasts only a day, but the plant will flower from about four to six weeks on average. Certain varieties bloom early, mid, or late season while repeat bloomers flower several times from spring to summer and into the fall.
