About the Sony XS-L1290P5
Sony's imaginative "pentagonal" woofer brings big bass output to your sound system. Its five-sided design controls standing waves that can detract from sound quality.
The XS-L1290P5 12" subwoofer features an aluminum cone housed in a heavy-duty steel vented frame. The four-layer voice coil and dual magnet structure extend power handling, and the foamed rubber surround enhances cone control. Plus, the ultra-stiff aluminum cone acts a huge heat sink, sucking up heat from the all-aluminum voice coil former and dissipating it through its face.
The XS-L1290P5 handles up to 500 watts RMS, and works well in a sealed enclosure (fits perfectly in a standard round cutout no modification is needed).

Product Research
P5 Cone Design: This woofer has a five-sided aluminum cone. This design stiffens the cone, resulting in lower distortion and higher power handling. The magnet and the outer rim of the woofer are also five-sided. The woofer's steel frame is round, therefore no special box cutout is required.
Aluminum Cone: The aluminum cone allows heat to transfer directly from the voice coil so it's dissipated through the cone face.
Foamed Rubber Surround: The foamed rubber surround provides high power handling, enhanced cone control and flexibility. The surround features stroke stabilizers, which appear as "hash marks", to provide added stability.
P5 Center Cap: The five-sided dust cap adds strength to the cone assembly.
Inner Cap: The inner cap at the top of the voice coil former stabilizes the former's "roundness" and strengthens the connection between the cone and the former.
Dual Dampers: Three-layer woven dampers provide enhanced cone control and have the lead wires woven in to prevent shorting to the frame.
Four-layer Voice Coil: The four-layer, edge-wound voice coil provides plenty of copper to pass the current necessary for high power reliability.
Heavy-gauge Vented Frame: The woofer's 1.2mm thick steel frame resists flexing, even under high-power conditions. Side vents provide air flow around the outside of the voice coil.
Vented Heat Sink: The backplate is finned cast metal, serving as a heat sink to remove heat from the woofer. Small vent holes provide air flow around the outside of the voice coil.
Rear Vent: The pistonic motion of the cone moves air through the rear vent, cooling the inside of the voice coil.
Dual Magnets: Two stacked magnets provide increased magnetic force to handle the high power driven into the voice coil.
Magnet Guard: The woofer has a rubber magnet guard that protects the magnet from nicks that could affect its performance.
Binding Posts: The gold-plated binding posts will accept bare wire, pin connectors, spade lugs and banana plugs. The binding posts are spaced too far apart to accept dual banana plugs.
Recommended Sealed Box Volume: The sealed box size recommended by Sony is 1.3 cu/ft.
