How much power?

The R-A60F 4-channel amp puts out 100 watts RMS per channel, perfectly matching the power ratings of Alpine's R-Series speakers. You can also use this versatile amp in 3-channel mode, driving a pair of speakers with the front channels, and bridging the rear channels to send up to 300 watts RMS to your sub. Advance Class D amp technology allows this amp to be built so small it'll fit in almost any of the tiny spaces available in many cars and trucks these days.

Tone control for all configurations

You can use the high-pass filters to remove the extreme low bass from your full-range speakers, so they'll play more efficiently. If you plan on running subwoofers with your R-A60F, you can adjust the low-pass filters to get just the right bass tone. Best of all, you can set up the filters for bandpass operation, so you can use this amp to power tweeters and midrange drivers, and use a separate amp, like the matching Alpine R-A75M, to power your sub.

Features

Overview: The Alpine R-A60F 4-channel amplifier is effectively two full range 2-channel amps built into one chassis, labeled Channel 1/2 and Channel 3/4. Each section of the amp is bridgeable, so it can be wired as 4-channel, 3-channel, or 2-channel.

CTA-2006 Compliant: CTA-2006 is a system of testing and measurement for mobile audio amplifiers. This voluntary standard advocates a uniform method for measuring an amplifier's RMS power output and signal-to-noise ratio. The criteria for measuring amplifier power uses a DC input voltage of 14.4 volts and the RMS power output is measured over a frequency range of 20 Hz to 20 kHz (for full range amplifiers), with 1% or less Total Harmonic Distortion plus noise (THD+N). Signal-to-Noise ratio is measured in weighted absolute decibels (dBA) at a reference of 1 watt into 4 ohms. CTA-2006 standards allow consumers to compare car amplifiers and receivers under the same conditions (apples to apples).

CTA-2006 Specifications:

  • Power Output: 100 watts RMS x 4 into 4Ω
  • Signal to Noise Ratio: 85 dBA (measured at 1 watt into 4Ω)

Other Specifications:

  • Power Output:
    • 2Ω: 150 watts RMS x 4 (14.4 volts, ≤1.0% THD+N)
    • Bridged: 300 watts RMS x 2 (14.4 volts, 4Ω)
  • Signal to Noise Ratio: 98 dB (at rated power output, 4Ω)

Hi-Res Frequency Response: The Alpine R-A60F offers a wide frequency range for compatibility with Hi-Resolution Audio.

  • +0/-3 dB (1W into 4Ω): 10 Hz - 45 kHz
  • +0/-1 dB (1W into 4Ω): 20 Hz - 20 kHz
Controls

Gain Control: There are independent rotary gain controls for the two sections of the amplifier (Channel 1/2 and Channel 3/4). The amp will accept line level signals from 0.2 volts to 4.0 volts or speaker level signals from 0.5 volts to 10 volts.

Input Level: Set the input level switch to match the type of input signal used (Hi for speaker level and Lo for line level).

Input Channel: The Input Channel switch is set to 1/2 if you have a 2-channel input signal, and an identical signal is sent to channels 1/2 and channels 3/4. Set the switch to 3/4 if you have a 4-channel source.

Crossovers: Channels 1/2 and 3/4 have independent crossovers. Each crossover has a 4-position switch to direct how it operates and both crossovers have a slope of 12dB/octave.

  • Channel 1/2:
    • Off: output is full range
    • HP: High Pass; crossover point is adjustable from 50 Hz to 400 Hz
    • LP: Low Pass; crossover point is adjustable from 50 Hz to 400 Hz
    • HP-H: used when powering a pair of tweeters; crossover point is adjustable from 400 Hz to 6 kHz
  • Channel 3/4:
    • Off: output is full range
    • HP: High Pass; crossover point is adjustable from 50 Hz to 400 Hz
    • LP: Low Pass; crossover point is adjustable from 50 Hz to 400 Hz
    • BP: Band Pass; two crossover points are set, high pass is adjustable from 50 Hz to 400 Hz and the low pass is adjustable from 400 Hz to 6 kHz

Optional Remote Control: The amplifier has an RJ-25 jack for adding the optional RUX-KNOB.2 wired remote level control for adjusting the channel 3/4 output remotely. The remote has a 20dB adjustment range (-20 dB to 0 dB relative to the gain setting).

Connections

Terminal Layout: For wiring convenience, all of the amplifier's inputs and outputs are on one side.

Power/Ground: Two set-screw terminals connect the power and ground cables. The terminals accept up to 4-gauge wire (a 4-gauge wiring kit is recommended). The set screws are tightened/loosened with the included 3mm Allen wrench.

Remote Turn-on: The remote turn-on set screw terminal will accept up to 8-gauge wire. The set screw is tightened/loosened with the included 2mm Allen wrench.

Speaker Outputs: The four pair of speaker outputs' set-screw terminals will accept up to 8-gauge wire. The set screws are tightened/loosened with the included 2mm Allen wrench.

Signal Input: Two pair of RCA jacks, labeled Channel 1/2 and Channel 3/4, connect to line level or speaker level input signals. If connecting the source unit's speaker wire to the input jacks, use a Speaker-to-RCA adapter or splice speaker wire to an RCA plug. When using a speaker level input signal, it may not be necessary to connect a remote turn-on lead because of the amplifier's remote sensing function.

Fuses: The two 30-amp ATO fuses protect the amplifier. Another fuse (60-amp minimum) should be placed on the +12V power wire within 18" of the battery.

Q
How is the 4x100w@4 or 4x150w@2 differentiated? How is the wiring different or what is it that differentiates them?
rhys  Dec 06, 2022
1 answer
A
Greetings Rhys, and thank you for your question. It is differentiated inside the amplifier based on resistance. More resistance allows less current flow, less resistance allows more. More current= more power.

Q
Will this amp be enough to power (2) 3.50-inch and (2) 6-inch x 9-inch delivering 100 and 220 watts of peak power output and (2) 6.50-inch midranges capable of delivering 200 watts of peak power output.?
adrian  Aug 01, 2021
1 answer
A
Technically not impossible, but it's a 4 channel amp, and you're talking about running 6 channels. You'd have to consider impedances, sensitivity, potential crossover implementation and wiring in series or parallel. You may find it more sensible/logical/simpler to only run 4 channels through the amp and/or get a second amp for the last 2 channels.
david  Aug 05, 2021
Q
Would this be a safe amp to power the alpine 30mc midrange speakers? I'm hesitant to purchase this amp, because while this will put out 100 watts at 4 ohms, that speaker is rated for 50 watts at 6 ohms. thoughts?
isaac  Apr 09, 2021

A
I think you'll be fine because the amp will almost certainly have a gain adjust so if you put the gain at about 1/2 or a bit higher, you will never have the amp put out it's full 100 W capability and these little speakers (I've installed 2 pr in 2 different vehicles of mine) really fill out the midrange with crisp clean volume. Also consider that though they are rated at 50 W a bench test will likely show they handle more but don't push it. They'll give your systIem more dimension. They sound fantastic. I believe mine are running at 60 W each from my Alpine deck. I love them. If you don't crank to max you'll be fine. Oh, yes, another thing: at 6 Ohms the resistance will reduce the effective power not by half but down to around 66 W anyway so if the amp delivers 100 @ 4 Ohms it will deliver around 1/3 less than 100 W putting you at about 66 W into 6 Ohms since the resistance is 1/3 more (4 vs 6) the power will be 1/3 less so you won't have a problem
thomas  Apr 14, 2021
A
You would be fine. The amp will lose about 25% or more of its power when you plug in the 6ohm speakers. You won't even need to turn up the gain that much as that will protect your amp. Rule of thumb is to buy the amp that will support about 20% more power than the speakers will consume.

Q
Can this amp handle a 2 amp load per channel when bridged? Says 300 watts RMS x 2 when bridged. Is that at 4 ohms each channel?

Im running 4 6x9 @ 2 ohm stereo and I'm running a 12 inch sub mono bridged on the rear channels. I haven't had any issues with the amp overheating or shutting off and the temperatures here reach 120s in the summer. My gain is turned up to 3/4 of the way. It's a nice clean amp! Can't go wrong with this Alpine!
kimberly  Oct 17, 2020
A
Yes, it can act as 2 amps while bridged, and when bridged, it is 4ohms per channel.

Q
is it okay to use speakers that are not hi-res certified on this amplifier? if so, will that make a difference in sound quality if I use speakers that are not hi-res? I bought Rockford Fosgate T2652-S sneakers, and wanted to know if this amp would be fine with those speakers. Im also buying the R-series alpine speakers as well.

Q
I recently bought a pair of Alpine R-S65C and S-S50 speakers, and would the R-A60F Amp pair well with these even though both have different RMS watts?
apinun  Mar 05, 2019

A
Sure. You'll just need to be sure to set the gains correctly. When you do, you can realize the full potential both pairs without blowing out the 5.25". https://www.crutchfield.com/Learn/setting-amplifier-gain.html
