Usually, when we hear the word "neutral colors", most of us think immediately the shades of white and the shades of gray. It is true though, that these shades, can create an ideal neutral background, in front of which every piece of furniture, textile, decorative item, artwork is successfully highlighted.
So, when it comes to neutral backgrounds in home decoration, white and gray are certainly a safe and classic choice. However, many times these colors, can become monotonous, and boring, especially when the overal decoration is ordinary and uninteresting. What happens then? Are there any colors that could work as neutrals and at the same time make a strong statement? Simply think out of the box and opt for the new neutrals: The shades of olive-gray.
Olive is a yellowish-green color, like that of unripe olives while shaded towards gray, it becomes olive drab.
How to use the color: You can certainly use the color to highlight an accent wall or any other surface. But when we are talking about background in home decoration, we usually refer to all the wall surfaces. In other words, pick a shade of olive-grey and let it become the dominant color through-out your home. The fabrics, artwork and accessories can work as accents, whether they are a contrast or complement to your background.
