A former University of Colorado football player accused of raping a woman last year pleaded guilty Wednesday morning to two reduced charges of felony sexual exploitation of children and misdemeanor third-degree assault.

Michael Sipili, 22, faced a charge of sexual assault after a 22-year-old woman reported that he raped her early Dec. 4 at an apartment in the 500 block of 27th Way.

Prosecutors and defense attorneys said in court that there was no factual basis for the charge of sexual exploitation of children, a charge that generally applies to possessing child pornography. Rather, the charge is part of the plea agreement, under which Sipili avoids the risk of being found guilty at trial of a more serious offense.
