The Derbyshire villages that you rate as the loveliest

The most northerly village suggested by readers, Hathersage, pictured, sits between Buxton and Sheffield but has no small number of things to boast about, including its own church, several bars and cafes and even a swimming pool. 

As the pandemic forced many of us to cancel our holidays over the past 18 months, we had to look closer to home for our summer getaways.

With staycations booming, it has offered Derbyshire residents the chance to appreciate what is on their doorstep as thousands took to regular countryside walks and short journeys to get out of the house.

Now, Derbyshire Live readers, after we asked on Facebook, have chosen their top villages across the county with hundreds of suggestions put forward.

Nether Heage and Holbrook, near Belper, and Tissington, north of Ashbourne, were regularly mentioned as readers' favourites, with all three earning plaudits for their community feel, location and scenic backdrop.

But there were also several others that got honourable mentions, including Monyash, Elton, Normanton and Tansley.

The Derbyshire Dales was a hotspot for picturesque villages, with several villages in the area put forward as being the best.
