Branstad critic deliberately misinforms

John Palmer, Grimes, Letter to the Editor

The letter from Eric Crouch ["Iowa's 'Comeback' Not Much With Branstad," June 30] is deliberately misinforming readers for Crouch's own political agenda.

Gov. Terry Branstad

For instance, the key issue about Jack Hatch's tax returns is that his campaign had publicly said they would make more than one year available, then reversed that decision only a few hours later after their team huddled. The Iowa Democratic Party in 2012, pleading for Mitt Romney to release more tax returns, said, "One year could be a fluke, perhaps done for show." Why is Hatch being held to a different standard?

Then Crouch attacked the positive ad run by the Branstad campaign and Crouch said that it was false. Well, KCRG-TV fact-checked the ad and rated it as "mostly true."

Crouch especially needs to take a hard look at his stances on public policy. Gov. Branstad is right to take credit for the unemployment rate reduction of nearly 30 percent across the state since he took office. Any objective observer could compare his good governance policies to those of another state, like Illinois, and conclude that there is a clear difference in state policies affecting unemployment rate reductions, job creation and debt reduction.
