Letha Ann 4th child of 5 children, born August 10, 1943 to the late Clabron Johnson and Lessie Mae Stephens Johnson. In Houston, Texas.
Letha attended the Brock and Burrus Elementary School. Graduated from the proud Booker T. Washington Eagles High School, attended the Lone Star College Health Care Nursing Program where she received her nursing certificate.
She met and married Richard Vurns, in 1982 until death separated them.
Letha a faithful woman of God, committed as she was, very responsible and big hearted yet stearned. Not shy with words, yet gentle. Kindhearted yet will eat you up like a lion. She loves shopping online and making sure that everyone had something. She had a giving and a loving spirit although she did not hold her tongue. Letha loved her family, church, cooking and everybody children. She was known as the cool cup lady who sold cool cups and snacks from her home to serve the youngsters in her neighborhood.
At an early age, Letha joined and was baptized at Hill Zion Baptist church Rev. SP Baker, Pastor. Later joined the Unity Spirit Baptist Church, Bishop C C Phillips, Sr. and Rev. Steven Phillips, Sr. until Bishop Phillips retired. Upon retiring Pastor CC Phillips, Jr. is now Pastor of Unity Spirit Baptist Church. Letha was faithful delinquently served as the Pastor Aide (President), Womens’ Ministry, Ushers Board (President), Hospitality Committee.
Self-employed, the owner of Aunt Letha’s Day Care for over 21 years. She loved children and practically raised her whole neighborhood. Then later was employed by Unity Children’s Home for 7 years until her death.
She was preceded in death by her parents; Husband, Richard Vurns, 1 sister Marie Adams and Granddaughter, Lakeitha Raymo.
She leaves to mourn, 2 sons, Jewl Bernard Johnson,Sr. (Marie) and Lester Charles Powers (Donna), 1 Godson, Josiah McKenzie, a very special neice, Michelle Jones (Michael), 1 sister Minister, Clara Funches, 2 brothers, Clabron Johnson, Jr. (Erma); Wilbert Johnson (Melba). 9 Grandchildren, Reginald, Terrance, Nicolas, Shaneequa, Jewl, II, Dataya, Diakira, Lester, Jr. Demetrius, 15 Great Grandchildren and 2 Great Great Grandchildren. Host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
