Origin
The articularis genus muscle originates from the anterior aspect of the distal one third of the body of the femur.
Insertion
The fibers of the articularis genus muscle travel inferiorly and insert onto the:
- synovial membrane of the knee joint;
- suprapatellar bursa.

The articularis genus muscle is found in the anterior compartment of the thigh. It is a short, flat skeletal muscle.
It is located:
- anterior (superficial) to the femur;
- posterior (deep) to the vastus intermedius muscle;
- medial to the vastus lateralis muscle;
- lateral to the vastus medialis muscle.
