Kverneland’s new disc coulter gets tough with hard soils

Kverneland’s latest disc coulter has a shallower disc profile to allow greater penetration in tough soils while requiring less power to pull, says the company. Called the CX-II, the coulter is said to give greater downward pressure – typically 35kg compared with 26kg for the previous CX version. That’s an increase of 34%.

Seed placement accuracy is also said to be good. While coulter penetration is said to be up to 8cm in good soils, the company’s tests have shown consistent sowing depths of 6cm at forward speeds of up to 10kph.

The CX-II continues Kverneland’s system of using a flexible disc working against the steel disc coulter to ensure the coulter stays clean in sticky soil conditions. Both discs rotate simultaneously, giving even wear and cleaning throughout the life of the coulter.

The shallower convex disc on the new CX-II is also said to give a reduced level of soil disturbance and create a narrower seed slot – 40mm compared with 48mm for the CX – meaning 20% less soil is moved.

The CX-II coulter is available as an option on s-drill/s-drill Pro, i-drill Pro, DF1 and DF2 models from 3-6m working widths.
