Rhododendron x pulchrum "Matsuda Gold" (azalea) is a RARE, low growing evergreen shrub with bright lavender purple flowers in the spring with yellowing green leaves flecked with yellow.  Rhododendron x pulchrum "Matsuda Gold" doesn't seem to have a cultivar name but is referred to as "Matsuda Gold".  Regardless of name status, Rhododendron x pulchrum "Matsuda Gold" makes a dazzling display in the early spring garden when the variegated leaves are at their brightest (color fades into the season) and the plant is covered with large, lavender purple flowers.  Rhododendron x pulchrum "Matsuda Gold" can be used as a single specimen but best planted in small groupings.
