What makes this book better is that the author is a good planner and executor of her story: this story has a simple approach, the triggers derail us becoming more aware as we track the plot. But, I couldn't understand what the story is about, what's going on, why are everyone messed up but as I was experiencing this plot and "triggers" occured and I understood and was finally able to get along the story.
The author had typo mistakes and the story could be revised once again to put the details precisely.
I would like to compare the main characters of this book to the main characters of I Know What Love Is by Whitney Bianca. No, it's not exactly similar - plot wise or the characteristics but the relationship of the H and h from this book made me think of IKWLI. The toxic, ugly relationship of Burton and Mira was unmanageable, they were a match made in hell.

Abandoned by her overworking, ambitious parents, Mira was a charity case adopted by the Dravens. In a twisted way Mira came to take responsibility of caring for the Dravers. Dravers were perfection but beneath it they were broken dealing with their issues in twisted ways. Burton Draven is Mira's crush and her ruin but that doesn't stop her from falling in love with Burton.
Burton is always degrading and insulting Mira who is a perfect epitome of a good daughter with good grades and reputation. But Mira is broken too, she can see Burton is a monster. They both play with each others dirty secrets, and hurt each other at every turn. They are such a mess and they belong to each other. They are perfect in their imperfectness.

It takes a lot of time for them to be together: involvement of other people in their lives, huge separation between years, complications related to expressing their feelings. It's definitely a dark and messy romance. It's a best friend's brother trope but I don't get the best friend thing. There is no proper best friend relationship, the association seems mostly like tolerating or robotic. Like I said earlier the story is very messy and unclear. Book 2 has a continuation story and is separated from Book 1, I am eager to see how the shambles of Mira and Burton can unravel.

While I enjoyed the second instalment of this trilogy, I didn’t enjoy it as much as the first. The first book saw all characters fairly regularly mentioned and while the first book focused on Vane and Holmes as a couple, we could follow the secondary stories for Burton and Thatcher.

These Absolved Monsters focused more on the couple rather than the story as a whole. We saw a different side to Burton through this and found that he was asking for degradation, like he needs it. He has a self-hatred that we find has come from his upbringing and what he went through.

He always has a fascination with Mira and she with him, but their circumstances in 'normal' society and his mother saw them hiding what they had and when Mira decided to tell everyone they were together this caused Burton to lash out. After all, he has been doing his best to be the perfect son for his mother.

Both of these characters have a level of self-hatred and are desperate for love but they don’t feel they deserve any and they have their own vices for attempting to fix themselves. Burton self-harms and Mira self-medicates.

Mira feels that she is at fault for everything that happens to Burtons sister and does what she can to protect her, the only way that she feels is best.

Things come to a head when Mira hurts the only other person that Burton cares for and he sets out to destroy her.

The time jump in this book is easier to follow as it is noted at the beginning of that particular chapter. As it is mentioned there is a love triangle for these 2 and Mira has the chance to be with Burton a number of times, she always goes back to her other love interest.

They go back and forth with each other until certain secrets come out and they admit they are better together.

This book shows what happens with a certain upbringing and you can see that they are the product of this, having their families mould them into the monsters they are without even realising or not caring because all Burtons mother cared about was herself.

I felt like this book was a little disjointed to the first. This one seems to me to have been meant to have a time frame parallel to the first book to a point, however I don’t think some of the timelines added up and there were a couple of inconsistencies. For example there was a scene with Burton and Ophelia toward the end of the book where they were talking which meant that when they both went to the dinner where the engagement was announced, she should have known who Jameson was at that time. Burton also acted pretty well in the first book if he really knew that Mira called the police. Events in this book said otherwise and I felt like this was just added in because it was forgotten about in the first book. This led into another inconsistency here where Mira mentioned to Holmes in the first book that she needs to tell Burton that she was the one that calls the police. Book 2 didn’t read this way.

In book 1 Holmes also went to Miras office at one point and was the one that told her she slept with Burton, whereas Book 2 told a different story.

Book 2 was also mainly based around Mira and Burton, which is understandable given it is about them, however I had hoped we would have a similar read to book 1.

Overall, I still enjoyed the book and I like this authors writing, I just think there needs to be a little bit of fine tuning here. Having said this, I applaud the ability to be able to put together all these words and create stories for us to read, it really cant be easy!!

I am still keen to get Thatchers Story!!

“ꜱʜᴇ ᴡᴀꜱ ᴍʏ ꜱᴇᴠᴇɴ ᴍɪɴᴜᴛᴇꜱ ɪɴ ʜᴇᴀᴠᴇɴ; ɪ ᴡᴀꜱ ʜᴇʀ ᴛɪᴄᴋᴇᴛ ᴛᴏ ʜᴇʟʟ.”

This is going to be a short/vague review. There’s so much that happens in this book I dont want to give away. 🫢

First off.. holy twist and turns, this book is a huge mindfuck, and you definitely need to pay attention. Second, I’m really trying to think of the words to say about this book. Third, know that Burton is my favorite, just stating that fact, even though I said it from the first book. 🤣

Warning: If you read this book, you definitely need to read the first one because the timeline matches up, and the first book explains a lot of what’s going on, and why certain parts happen. I loved that we got a background story before shit hit the fan in the first book between Burton and Mira. Their story was not what I expected, it’s better. I can’t wait to see where their story is heading to after all that happened, but I need to know what happened to a certain arsehole character.

When reading this book, I thought Burton would be more cruel towards Mira. They kind of were to eachother, but kind of not? If that makes sense. This my friends, was an interesting relationship, but I loved it. I feel like they need a part two; there I said it. You need to read to find out why this is a MUST. 😉

These Absolved Monsters

Mira is taken in by Burton's family as a charity case and is just not truly wanted by anyone. She and Burton are at each other's throats, tearing the other down and making their lives a living hell, until they realize there might be a little spark there. But Burton can't have her, since that's his little sister's best friend, so now he has to ruin her for anyone else who might have their eyes on her.

I love the enemies to lovers romance trope and seeing the characters switch from hate to love. Mira and Burton are a match made in hell and they just belong together, despite the way that they initially treat each other. I also love the added trope of the forbidden romance and them not being able to truly be together at first. His obsessive nature with her was actually intriguing to read and I was hooked on this couple.

It's been a pattern of the author being a little confusing with the plot, as well as beginning the book fast before slowing down and really delving into details. I would love to see the author take a little more time to develop the beginning of the book a little more so that there isn't a fast pace that drops into a slow one.

I was super excited to read this one because I absolutely loved the first book in the series, and while it didn’t have the same magic as the first one, it was still a good book.

This book was dark and twisty and quite a roller coaster. Unlike the first book this one ended on a bit of cliffhanger so I’m very curious to see where it goes from here. And Mira is such an interesting character- she was my favorite part, hands down. I didn’t quite love her and Burton as couple as much as I did Vane and Holmes, but it definitely got better by the end.

I usually don’t mention anything about writing style but one thing that bothered me was the overuse of the word monster. I know it is a personal thing but I don’t like when an author repeatedly throws in a word or words from the title in the book and this was done to the point that it sort of pulled me out of the story. If that doesn’t bother you like it does me, I’m sure you’ll enjoy this book even more than I did.

That aside, I still really liked it and I look forward to more from this author. I’m addition to seeing how their story finishes, we got some hints about Thatcher’s story so I’m excited for that as well.

I enjoyed the first book of this series much more than this one, although this one still had a good enough story I would keep reading. I feel like all of the characters were much better developed in the first story, this one they were kind of thrown together, then developed later. I like it when we much more organically get a pairing than the sudden pairing and then we see the characters for who they are.

This story is about two characters who by rights do not belong together. Mira and Burton are off limits to each other since he's her best friend's brother. But you know what they say about that which is forbidden -- it's always the thing that you crave the most. They are intrigued by each other, but it takes a long time for circumstances and people to let them be together. They do stand on their own as characters, but part of their conflict is that they never communicate important information to each other either. However, the final threads to coupledom may be the hardest ones to tie.

I just have to start off by saying that Alex King is a brand new author to me . So when I first came across the arc signup for this duet I really did not know what to expect . I mean I definitely was so very intrigued as dark romances are one or my weaknesses especially step brother romances . So I gave this duet a shot and I was so freaking hooked from the very first page in book 1 until the very last . Now here we are at the second installment and I just may have found a new favorite author. This is a series that’s dark and twisted, that’s going to keep you on the edge of your seat and have you falling in love with all the characters. Characters that are so captivating, so unique and very very multi layered. There will be times you literally do not know which way is up and which way is down. I’m not giving ant details away mainly because you really need to experience this phenomenal book for yourself . All I’m going to say is that I read dark romances 95% of the time and this is easily one of the best I’ve read this year

ARC Review

This is the second book to Unholy Trinity series, this book is about Burton and Mira. Mira is taken in by the Dravens. Burton Draven is a monster set out to break Mira in every possible way he can. I enjoyed this book I didn’t find it as dark as the first one but it is still dark. This book also finishes on a bit of a cliff hanger.

⚠️ There are multiple triggering elements. If you have any hesitation, check the warnings before diving in. Otherwise, blind is best!!

wow!

We see Burton SHINE and I absolutely love it.

Mira was taken in by his parents — a charity case. They set out to hurt each other at every turn and try to break one another. They just can’t seem to leave it — Mira, keeping tabs even while engaged to Jameson who has dirty secrets of his own that even she was unaware of.

I loved the games Jameson and Burton continued to play with each other and the clashing of the trinity concerning Mira and the role she’d played as a whole — after all she’s been the one to call the police.

So many twisted lies every way imaginable. The way that Jameson literally uses everything Burton has to manipulate and try to destroy him. The secrets and truths that come out towards the end are ones you don’t expect and I really loved this book for that reason.

These Absolved Monsters was Heartbreaking

This is the second book in the Unholy Trinity series. I thought it was the conclusion but there was an open-ending finale. You have to read the first book to understand what you're reading, as this story exists in a vacuum. Here the events are told from Burton and Miras' points of view. The characters from the first book are not really expanded on in this book, neither are the events. This story shows a moment in time, then jumps to the next moment in time. Burton and Mira keep running from each other, as they are both broken and don't know how to love each other. They only seem to know how to cause pain. This is a heartbreaking and emotional story. I loved the characters and was rooting for them.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

i dont know what to rlly say bc not much happened. though stuff did occur… wild shit but… it felt like nothing at the same time. i know for a fact the pacing threw me off - for what i had anticipated to be a good 1/4, maybe 1/2 of the story was instead condensed into the prologue. Paragraphed events, telling > showing, and some grammatical errors thrown in, it was a little wonky to start. by the time we got to the present time i was just utterly confused as to where the MC’s relationship stood. even the relationships between the MCs and the sister/bff confused me… just a couple plot holes/ambiguity too early on for my liking.
maybe ill come back - thats a strong maybe - but im gonna leave it.

Following book 1 this is more of Mira and Burton's story.
You must read book 1 to truly have a understanding of what went down.
There is a fast pace to start like book one,but then it seems to die off as we go. Same as the authors previous book. Also, I did see quite a few inconsistencies from book 1 and 2 that really had me scratching my head.
But we get to see behind the scenes of why Burton is why he is and the past of Mira.
It is a enemies to lovers forbidden romance for them. He truly had it in his head that if he can't have her then he won't let anyone have her.
It was a good read over all. The characters from book 1 are in this, just not as much as I would have liked.

This is book 2 of the Unholy Trinity. We meet Burton, a psycho and Mira, a bookworm who had nothing better to do but flirt with a knïfe and end up liking it.
This is exactly how two little sickos find each other's demons instead of salvation. Each book is darker and more fûck’d up than the last.

TW/tropes

bully, second chance, revenge, college/adulthood, dark, psychos, mental health, blood play, knife play, murder, alchol/drug use, stepbrother, surprise pregnancy, praise/degradation, love triangle

From the second I met them in the first Unholy Trinity Book I couldn‘t wait to read there story. And it didn‘t disappoint! 🔥
Miras and Burtons dark and twisted past has me on my knees. The development of there relationship is real and torturesly slow at the same time. The twists and turns create the perfect storyline. Nobody could have written there story in a better way with charakters straight from hell. 😈

You should read this book if you like full developed charakters, dark Romance and brother‘s best friend tropes with spice. 🌶🖤

Burton and Mira an unlikely pair. Living as a family so to speak she is his sister's best friend whose parents are not around. Now the "stray" she both loves and hates Burton. When they cross that line their relationship shifts but not without the hate and denial. There are parts that may be a trigger for some TW. There is betrayal secrets and twisted thinking and actions. But these two are perfect for each other they see the messed up parts of each other. But there is someone who wants them destroyed.

So good

After losing her parents Mira was taken in by the Dravens . After Burton Draven protects her she doesn’t really know what to make of him she just knows she needs to please him . Burton Draven is a monster set out to break Mira and he does whatever he can to do that although Mira never seems to let it bother her . I enjoyed this Burton and Mira see each others monsters but it takes a lot of effort for them both to realise they belong together .

These were two lost souls made for each other.
Who constantly were pushing and pulling.
Never really owning up to those feelings,
instead they emotionally and mentally hurt
each other. These two wasted so much time.
The love was there from the very beginning,
but so much had to happen for them
to finally make the giant leap to forever.
I really hope there's more books to this,
would love to know more about the other
characters.

The author made the same trigger warning post in the beginning of this book as book 1. As in book 1, I do t have any triggers so I read away. It also was a very dark book with some confusing text at times but still kept my attention. I don’t think it was as dark as book 1. It did however end on a cliffhanger.

dark and twisty - just like I like it

This book was such a perfect second book. Some of the twists and turns got a little confusing but the story made it easy to get back on track. Burton and Mira were too jacked up alone to be good for anyone but each other. As long as you understand that everything else makes perfect sense. I love how these characters are so unapologetically cruel and ruthless, even to each other. If this series continues to get darker, then I can’t wait for book 3.

This is just as dark as the first book and so steamy. This is Mira and Burton story. These two are in the first book but this is a the inside story between them. Burton has been obsessed with Mira since he set eyes on her but was a forbidden relationship. At the time. I so can’t wait for the next book.

I loved this one, just as I loved the first one. Of course, it was a different kind of love. 🖤

This was definitely a different respect for twisted characters in the Unholy gang.

I am curious to see where this left certain characters because it did leave it open for anything.

Patiently waiting for more . . .

This is the second book in the Unholy Trinity series. This book features our FMC and MMC who have secrets, and goals of destroying the other. This book was a good read. While I will say that it didn't capture me like the first book did it still had me wanting to find out more. I'm looking forward to reading book three and seeing more of Alex's work.

I loved this book in the series as much as I did the first book in the series. Just as dark as the first one with the main characters focusing on their inner demons then those around them. I did get frustrated a little with Mira and Burton a few times because it was clear they loved each other but kept pushing each other. This story focuses mostly on the relationship between them instead of bringing in the other characters. I also felt this one wasn’t as spicy as the first one but it also didn’t need it. The unspoken feelings were enough to carry the book. I can’t wait for the next one in the series.

There is so much to unpack in this book
Sister’s best friend, ‘foster sibling’, childhood crush, hate to love, and plenty of dark and disturbing bits. This book is slightly more character driven then plot driven but I am ok with that and it is executed well.

This is the second book in the series and is definitely just as good and dark and twisted as the first one. Mira and Burton have a twisted history with each other and as much as they love each other they push each other away and torment one another, which was a little frustrating when you want them to just be together lol. They both are so messed up and perfect for each other, like a match made in hell. Again there were some seriously unexpected moments which makes it such a great read. I can’t wait to see where the next story picks up and how the series continues.
