Job Description

Would you like to be the next HR Field Director for the Utah Department of Corrections (UDOC) or the Department of Workforce Services (DWS) field office?  The UDOC Director also provides HR support to National Guard and Board of Pardons. The DWS Director also provides HR support to the Public Service Commission and the Department of Financial Institutions. This is your chance to deliver high quality human resource partnerships to these great agencies within the State of Utah! The chosen candidates will be embedded within the main departments to provide HR leadership to the HR staff and have direct impact on the ability and effectiveness of these supported agencies to fulfill their missions and achieve their visions.

All candidates selected to fill vacancies at the Division of Human Resource Management (DHRM) may be reassigned to other work locations within Salt Lake or Utah counties at any time based on business need.  This recruitment may also be used to fill future vacancies within DHRM.

Example of Duties

Principal Duties
As the HR Field Director, you will:

  • Establish and maintain strong partnerships with agency executive management to build in-depth knowledge and understanding of agency needs.
  • Develop and recommend appropriate human capital strategies based on knowledge and understanding of business needs.
  • Consult with agency management, provide guidance, and plan to help ensure the successful results of agency strategic efforts.
  • Work independently to effectively manage an assigned field office ensuring the office is properly positioned and equipped to provide high quality human resource support that meet customer needs.
  • Consistently work toward improving the service delivery of the field office and producing higher quality levels of service to meet or exceed customer expectations.
  • Work in consultation with internal human resource data experts to conduct research and gather critical data that identify internal and market trends.
  • Effectively utilize data to develop business strategies to maximize positive impact on customer agency objectives.
  • Manage field office team including hiring, coaching, mentoring, training, performance evaluation, and providing development opportunities.
  • Communicate DHRM vision to staff and aligns field office efforts accordingly.
  • Effectively utilize data to manage production capacity, demand, and staff performance.

Typical Qualifications

The Ideal Candidate has:

  • Demonstrated management skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of human resource principles.
  • Knowledge of applicable state and federal employment laws.
  • Experience developing and implementing human capital strategies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in the effective use of data.

  • Risks found in the typical office setting, which is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated, e.g., safe use of office equipment, avoiding trips and falls, observing fire regulations, etc.
