Omari Hardwick is busy. In fact, he swears he’s “encroaching on” Kevin Hart’s level of hustle. The actor and musician recently spoke with Hart, who said himself that Hardwick might be closing in on his level of daily productivity. And while he’s not quite there yet, he promises he’s about to be. “I’m coming, Kevin,” he whispers.

You’d think someone with such a packed schedule would need to cut down on their grooming routine, but no—for Hardwick, taking time to get himself ready in the morning is a crucial step in getting his day on track. “Taking care of yourself is a big necessity,” he says. “You gotta make sure that you keep yourself in a proper condition to always be hollered at.” For the latest episode of Grooming Gods, Hardwick showed us exactly how that happens.

Looks aside, though, Hardwick's morning ritual is also where he sets some high-priority intentions. Whether that’s using toner twice to properly wake himself up or applying cologne with the goal of giving the perfect hug, it’s all little pit stops on his metaphorical path to goodness. “I am trying every day to put my best foot forward,” he says, “and that starts right here in the morning.”

Here’s everything you need to get your game face on for a Hardwick-level day of activities.

Give yourself a wake-up call.

Thayers Witch Hazel facial mist

To help boost his energy for the day ahead, Hardwick splashes some lukewarm water on his face and follows it up with witch hazel. Give it three or four spritzes and, if you’re feeling really sluggish, don’t hesitate to use it on other parts of your body: shoulders, back of your head, chest. Now, he says, “I’m awake.”

Know yourself.

Niva Men Sensitive shaving gel

Next step is a thorough shave—which, in Hardwick’s case, includes his head, for a part he’s currently filming. “You gotta know the shape of your face,” he advises, in order to avoid cuts. For fellas with high cheekbones, he recommends puffing out your cheeks if you’re nervous. That way, you’ve got a little more room for error.

Polish your shiny whites.

Sensodyne extra-whitening toothpaste

Hardwick likes to wait until the end of his routine to wipe all the gunk out of his beard, so he lets any stray shaving cream hang out until after he’s done brushing his teeth.

Freshen up.

Arm & Hammer deodorant

A few swipes of deodorant, followed by another round of toner—this one more for functional, exfoliating reasons—get Hardwick moisturized enough to seal everything in.

Never forget SPF.

Olay face moisturizer with sunscreen

Hardwick is a hard-ass when it comes to SPF. “This is really important for men of color,” he stresses, because “sometimes we think that the sun does not affect us.” Even on the cloudiest day, he uses two pumps of his SPF moisturizer.

Get yourself in huggable form.

YSL Y Eau de Parfum

His cologne of choice is YSL Y, spritzed three times. His scent goals are simple: He wants to smell good enough that “when you hug somebody, they never forget that hug.”

Condition the beard.

Scotch Porter beard conditioner

“Two major scoops” of conditioner get Hardwick’s beard in tip-top, moisturized shape. He adds another scoop for his goatee and mustache, gently massaging it in until everything is blended. He finishes everything off with a quick brush through the whole beard.
