Removals to Essex – Rochford

Removals to Essex – Rochford

The south-east Essex town of Rochford is an extremely attractive place to move to. It is close to the coast and enjoys excellent transport links with London and Europe, and the district was ranked the seventh best place to live in the UK in a quality of life survey by high street bank Halifax.
Greens Removals can organise your move to all parts of Essex, including Rochford. Here is our guide to the town.

History
Rochford, whose name means ‘a ford over the River Roach’, was historically one of the most important places in Essex.  The fertile arable land in the area helped to establish a rich farming community. Although Rochford town was gradually overshadowed by its near-neighbour Southend, the town continues to grow and thrive. According to the 2011 census, Rochford has a population of more than 8,000.

Transport
The town is just over 20 miles south-east of the city of Chelmsford, and around three miles north of Southend. The A127 is Rochford’s major road link with the rest of the county.

Rochford has regular rail services to Southend, as well as to a separate station at London Southend Airport and London Liverpool Street. The journey time to the capital is 45 minutes, making it a popular commuter town.

London Southend Airport, which was previously a military airfield, lies partly in the parish of Rochford. It is now a commercial operation, handling European and domestic flights. The busiest routes are to Amsterdam and Alicante.

Places of Interest
Rochford has plenty of interesting buildings which reflect its past. One of the town’s historic jewels is the Old House in South Street. It was built in 1270 with a timber frame and wattle and daub panels, and was considered the height of luxury in mediaeval England. It was bought by the district council in 1982, has now been now fully restored and is open to the public.

Another point of interest is Rochford Hall, parts of which also date from the 13th century. This stately home used to be the family seat of the Boleyns –  Anne Boleyn became the second wife of King Henry VIII. The hall is now privately owned by Rochford Hundred Golf Club, although visitors are free to admire its stunning exterior. And the club is one which can boast that it has a church on the course. St Andrew’s Church is in full view of the 1st tee and 18th fairway, as well as the clubhouse.

Shops
The town’s market is held every Tuesday in the town’s main square. Its royal charter was granted in 1247, making it one of the oldest markets in England. Bargain-hunters can check out the many different stalls, and the Market Square is also the focal point of the town’s shopping area, with plenty of cafes, restaurants and takeaways, hairdressers, estate agents and other shops to choose from.

There are proposals in the pipeline to create almost 5,000 jobs at a new business park off Cherry Orchard Way, Rochford. The £150million project also includes a new bus service and school nursery.

Schools
Rochford is extremely well served for primary schools, with Rochford Primary and Nursery School, Waterman Primary Academy, Holt Farm Infant School, Stambridge Primary, Ashingdon Primary Academy and St Teresa’s Catholic Primary all located in the town.

King Edmund School, Rochford, is the secondary school academy which specialises in business and enterprise and applied learning. It was established in 1961 when the Wakering and Rochford secondary schools were merged.
