Justin Timberlake has dropped the music video for his new song, “Selfish,” ahead of a musical guest appearance on Saturday Night Live this weekend.
The R&B-inspired video, directed by Bradley J. Calder, pulls back the curtain on Timberlake’s production process as he is seen seemingly in rehearsals on a soundstage as the line between the vulnerable artist and person blurs.
Timberlake starts off in casual clothing before upgrading to a black suit, where he fills a spotlight as he dances and sings alone on a dark stage. “Baby you got such a hold on me / So if I get jealous, I can’t help it / I want every bit of you / I guess I’m selfish,” Timberlake croons.

Midway through the video, Timberlake spots a brightly lit doorway that leads to a dollhouse-sized office he has difficulty navigating. At the end of the trailer, and after repeating the line “I guess I’m selfish,” the lights come up on the soundstage and Timberlake, now the Hollywood celebrity sporting a playful grin on his face, walks away.
The new single “Selfish” and the upcoming Everything I Thought I Was album out in March from RCA Records is written by Timberlake, Louis Bell, Cirkut Theron Thomas, Amy Allen and is produced by Timberlake, Louis Bell and Cirkut.
“Selfish” is also Timberlake’s first solo music outing after his 2018 “Man of the Woods” record. He famously got his start as the youngest member of the wildly successful 1990s boy band NSYNC, and then becoming a multiplatinum Grammy-winning solo artist.
Timberlake debuted the new song “Selfish” during a performance at the Orpheum Theater in his hometown of Memphis, Tennessee. He also shared a 33-second clip of the single on YouTube.
