DROMCLOUGH National School celebrated a huge victory last week when the school's hurling team won the Cumann na Bunscoil Division two County Final against Dingle.

The final took place in Austin Stacks Park, Tralee with a final score line of 1-12 to 1-7.

"The children are very interested and enthusiastic about the sport. There's always a large panel and someone to jump in if a place becomes available. It's great to see because Kerry isn't really a stronghold for hurling," said Principal Mary O'Connor.

The fourth, fifth and sixth class children have been training for the last two years together as a school team and won the division three title last year and includes a young girl in it's squad. The children were trained by Jerome O'Sullivan, Crotta O'Neills trainer, and Dromclough teacher Mr Molyneaux.

"Hurling is a new departure for the school to get involved in and both the boys and girls really love the sport," Ms O'Connor added.

"It's great to see hurling, a game of skill and speed, taking hold in North Kerry. The pupils are very excited about playing hurling and having joined the famous Crotta O'Neills Club," said Ms. O'Connor.
