In Short

  • The Amarnath Yatra will begin on June 28
  • This year's Shiva Lingam is smaller as compared to last year
  • The small size of shrine is due to rising temperature in the Valley

Amarnath Yatra is scheduled to commence from June 28 onward in Jammu and Kashmir. We bring to you the first look of the holy Shiva Lingam. The Amarnath shrine is formed every year inside the cave as the freezing water drops fall from the cave's roof.

This year's Shiva Lingam at Amarnath is slightly smaller as compared to last year.

The reason behind the small size of the Shiva Lingam is less snowfall and rising temperature in the Valley this year.

The way to Amarnath Cave is currently blocked due to snow storms. However, the Amarnath Shrine Board has started the excavation work and is aiming to prepare everything before June 28.

Last year, around 4 lakh pilgrims visited the Amarnath Shrine.
