Lincoln police confiscate suspected illegal products at 5 CBD shops
ALL RIGHT, ALEX, THANK YOU. NOW, THIS ALL LEAVES SOME NEBRASKANS WONDERING WHAT’S LEGAL AND WHAT’S SAFE. KETV, NEWSWATCH, EVANS JOEY SAFCHIK TAKES THOSE QUESTIONS TO SCIENTISTS AT THE DOUGLAS COUNTY SHERIFF. SHE JOINS US WITH THIS GET THE FACTS REPORT. JOEY. ROB QUANECIA, NEEDLESS TO SAY, THIS IS AN AREA OF HIGH INTEREST, BUT THERE ARE A LOT OF QUESTIONS ABOUT ALL THOSE ACRONYMS AND WHAT’S LEGAL AND WHAT’S NOT. SO WE VISITED A LAB AT THE DOUGLAS COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE TO LEARN MORE ABOUT THE SCIENCE AND THE LAW. MARIJUANA IS A SCHEDULE ONE DRUG UNDER NEBRASKA LAW. SO WHAT EXACTLY DO PLACES LIKE THIS AND THIS AND THIS SELL THE WHOLE ISSUE WITH CANNABIS CAN BE VERY CONFUSING FOR PEOPLE. CANNABIS IS A PLANT. MARIJUANA IS THE PART OF THAT PLANT CONTAINING THC, WHICH IS WHAT GETS PEOPLE HIGH. THEN THERE’S HEMP, WHICH IS THE PART OF THE PLANT WITH LOW THC. THAT PART’S LEGAL AND THAT’S BECOME THE QUESTION WHAT’S LEGAL AND WHAT’S WHAT’S NOT. WHEN A CANNABIS SAMPLE FINDS ITS WAY INTO CHRISTINE LIEBIG’S FORENSICS LAB AT THE DOUGLAS COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE, SHE’S LOOKING TO SEE IF IT HAS MORE THAN 0.3% DELTA NINE THC. IF IT DOES HAYES, THEN IT’S ILLEGAL JUST BY LOOKING AT WHAT YOU HAVE. YOU CAN’T TELL IF IT’S LEGAL OR NOT. TO COMPOUND THE CONFUSION, THERE ARE LOTS OF THC VARIOUS OPTIONS LIKE DELTA EIGHT, THC OR DELTA TEN THC. IT’S ONLY DELTA NINE. THAT’S ILLEGAL AT MORE THAN 0.3%. THE TROUBLE IS, THE VARIATIONS DON’T EXIST IN ISOLATION. WHEN YOU’RE BUYING SOMETHING LIKE THIS IN GENERAL, ESPECIALLY IN A STATE LIKE OURS WHERE IT’S NOT LEGAL. SO WE DON’T HAVE ANY REGULATIONS ON THE TESTING THERE. YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT YOU’RE GETTING. SO IT’S IT’S NOT IT’S NOT SAFE. RECENT SEARCHES AT SMOKE SHOPS IN SARPY AND LANCASTER COUNTIES PUT QUESTIONS ABOUT CANNABIS UNDER THE MICROSCOPE. LOUP AND THIS CHEMIST SAYS A BUDDING AREA OF INTEREST IS IN TESTING CAPACITY. EVEN HER LAB CAN’T TEST EDIBLES OR VAPE OIL. WE NEED TO BE ABLE TO TEST THOSE PRODUCTS. THE MOST POPULAR PRODUCTS THAT ARE SOLD AT THESE SHOPS ARE THE VAPES AND THE EDIBLES. SO AGAIN, CBD IS LEGAL AS LONG AS IT DOES NOT CONTAIN MORE THAN 0.3%. DELTA NINE THC. BUT BEWARE THAT WHAT YOU BUY COULD HAVE SOM
