Chiefs reportedly decline fifth-year option for wide receiver Kadarius Toney
The Kansas City Chiefs have reportedly declined the fifth-year option for wide receiver Kadarius Toney. Toney will become a free agent following the 2024 season, ESPN reports. The decision comes a few weeks after Chiefs general manager Brett Veach referred to Toney as the team's most talented wideout. "I know Kadarius has obviously had a long history of injury issues, but he is probably our most talented wideout," Veach said. "Again, it doesn't do anyone any good unless you stay healthy, but the kid has always worked hard here for us, and I know he's been down there with Pat (Mahomes), and I think it's just a matter of him staying healthy. If he can do that, he can really do a lot of great things in this offense. That's one of the things – there's a lot of speculation about KT, but I don't think we ever stopped believing in him. I think people around the building like him."After playing a pivotal role in winning the Super Bowl against the Philadelphia Eagles in February 2023, Toney had 27 catches and 169 yards in 2023. He dropped several passes during the season and lined up offsides, negating a last-second touchdown against the Buffalo Bills at Arrowhead Stadium.
