Ohio State's Connor Crowell is departing the football team.

A potentially promising career for linebacker Connor Crowell has ended, at least with Ohio State, as team doctors did not clear Crowell to play after multiple ankle surgeries. Crowell injured the ankle in high school, and according to reports, was recently seen in a walking boot. Per the university's release:

Crowell, who has had two surgeries while at Ohio State for a previous injury that occurred while in high school, will not be medically cleared to play by the OSU medical staff.

The 6-1, 235 pound linebacker had a highly productive high school career at North Point in Waldorf, Maryland, tallying up 212 tackles and 9 sacks over his junior and senior year. His departure frees up another possible scholarship for the 2013 class, perhaps to be used to bolster depth at offensive line, wide receiver, or linebacker.

The Buckeyes still have many linebackers from Crowell's class on the roster, including the more highly rated Luke Roberts of Lancaster and Joshua Perry of Olentangy.
