Discover the Enchanting World of Sea Stars: From Oxwich Bay to Monterey Bay, from Oregon to Thailand, these captivating creatures grace our oceans with their vibrant colors and unique shapes. In the tidal zone of Strawberry Hill State Park, Ochre & Purple Sea Stars create a mesmerizing spectacle against the backdrop of the Pacific Ocean. Meanwhile, Bat Sea Star in Monterey Bay showcases its intricate patterns that seem straight out of a dream. Journeying to Andaman Sea in Thailand, we encounter the majestic Crown of Thorns Starfish, an awe-inspiring sight that commands attention. St Abbs Voluntary Marine Reserve introduces us to the Common Sunstar - Crossaster papposus - a true gem found amidst Scotland's marine wonders. But it is not just about individual stars; sometimes they come together in astonishing numbers. Witness a large group of Sunflower sea stars covering rocks like a vibrant tapestry beneath the waves. Les Dents in Sark reveals another hidden treasure - Bloody Henry Starfish - Henricia oculata - adding splashes of red hues to this picturesque British Channel Island. Tide pools offer glimpses into fascinating microcosms where starfish thrive alongside other marine life forms. A Blood star adorned with barnacles captures our imagination at Tongue Point during low tide while clinging onto rocks for dear life. On Dail Beag Beach in Lewis, Outer Hebrides, we find starfish perched on rocky surfaces as if guarding their underwater kingdom. The journey continues as we explore Saltstraumen in Bod, Norway where Common Starfish gracefully coexist with large Anemones and even showcase their movement through time-lapse photography captured back in October 2008. Finally, let us not forget about Echinidea: sea urchins and sea dollars depicted beautifully in a vintage lithograph from 1904 – reminding us that they can part of an intricate ecosystem teeming with diverse marine life.
