The voluntary “NextGen” TV system for free over-the-air broadcasting, also known as ATSC 3.0, was approved for deployment in the U.S. by the FCC in late 2017, bringing with it the promise of features such as 4K, HDR, interactivity and mobility. But while the Advanced Television Systems Committee says ATSC 3.0 is now available to 75% of Nielsen households in the U.S., there are a lot of moving parts that still need to come together.
