"The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) will soon be proposing new rules to clarify that synthetically manufactured cannabinoids like delta-8 THC are prohibited controlled substances. At the agency’s 2023 Supply Chain Conference earlier this month, Terrance Boos, chief of DEA’s Drug and Chemical Evaluation Section, said that officials have received “multiple petitions” on the issue and are “in the process of modifying our [regulations]” on cannabis constituents based on recommendations from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). Boos said that the intent of the forthcoming rulemaking will be to provide clarity and clear up confusion about the legal status of various cannabinoids since hemp and its derivatives were federally legalized under the 2018 Farm Bill. Since then, the market for cannabis products, including edibles and tinctures, has rapidly expanded. And the emergence of intoxicating cannabinoids like delta-8 THC has prompted lawmakers in states across the country to enact a patchwork of regulations for the products." At the international level, treaties such as the 1961 Single Convention and European drug laws have not yet regulated this category of cannabinoids as they are new in the market. As a result, the demand for these intoxicating hemp-derived cannabinoids may be an attractive choice also for European consumers who want to experience the effects of marijuana legally or in a gray area of the law, as no European country has legalized the sale of adult-use marijuana yet. These products are marketed as a "legal" alternative to cannabis and THC products and are available in various forms, such as branded and unbranded flowers, sprays, tinctures, oils, vape cartridges, and edibles. As of March 31, 2023, HHC has been identified in 20 EU member states, as well as in Norway and Switzerland, which are not EU members. Little tip for your #tiptuesday If you're using those CBD products, like CBD oil, there's a possibility you could receive a positive THC test result. And while yes, there are laws out there regarding marijuana testing, companies can still have a zero tolerance policy. Which can mean bad things if you test positive for THC. So, if you're scheduled to have a drug test coming up, might want to lay off the CBD. Just a thought #nationalcbdday

Ahead of a potential Florida marijuana legalization vote on the ballot this November, a Republican lawmaker has preemptively filed a bill that would impose strict limitations on THC potency if the reform is approved by voters. Rep. Ralph Massullo (R) introduced the legislation on Friday, proposing a THC cap that is significantly lower than what’s available in most state markets. It would take effect 30 days after voters pass any future constitutional amendment to enact legalization. The bill would set a 10 percent THC limit for cannabis products that are meant for smoking and a 60 percent limit for other forms of marijuana such as extracts.
