I came across this saying yesterday, and it's fascinating concept. It's great how all the other comments give their version of understanding, which further shows how unique we all are. We can also adapt too as the circumstances change.  For me, It's also how we were placed in the warer!  If the egg was thrown in to water in a pan, it would crack.  If a potato was however, it would remain hard.   The essence is also the negative or positivd impact of the boiling water. Eggs are different to potatoes, you can eat them soft or hard, whereas potatoes are eaten once softened, even roasting softens the inside. Potatoes and eggs know how to adapt in the circumstances... let's be like them 👏  I'd prefer not to be thrown in boiling water though, and be surrounded by kindness and thoughtful people who appreciate how unique we all are 🙃

Agree with your statement; before sharing our views we all are missing one very important element and that is source which is boiling water. if you deeply observed and understand that it has four elements Egg, Potato and Boiling water we are missing Source/Energy/ Fire/ Heat which is boiling water. Consequently, because of heat generated to boil water both products Egg and Potato under the process occuring to natural phenomena, Hard and Soft. Gist. Egg and Potato are two Different people with different characteristics, Boiling water is the energy helps to augmented our natural perspective and now finally fourth element is fire/ Source/ Energy which is circumstance; turned consequently things into real and actual existence. The basic message is to handle circumstance good/ bad to achieve what you deserve to be.

Once flute player went to USA and gave performance. (This is old story). Two from audience after show asked him to show flute. They were surprised as there was nothing from which music came . Then there were told, it my mouth from where I was blowing wind. It my hand that was moving over holes. And finally it was my mind which was controlling both ,hand and mouth.
