The National Football League (NFL) just concluded the annual "Combine", held annually in Indianapolis. The NFL's website describes the event as; The NFL Combine is where American football meets speed dating. It is part track meet and part job interview as the 32 NFL teams learn more about the top 330+ college football players from across the United States who will enter April's NFL Draft. Players are measured, weighed, put through a series of physical tests and interviewed many times over by NFL clubs. And that's all before they carry out drills and practice reps that relate to their specific position on the field. Attached is Tom Brady's picture from the leagues 2000 Combine. The picture has grown to be legendary. Six Super Bowl victories later and considered in the mix of the best Quarterback in NFL history, Brady has far exceeded his "career day" that lead to falling to the 6th round draft pick by the New England Patriots. The Tom Brady story is a reminder that the hiring process is not an exact science. I learned early in my career that hiring the "resume" often led to a "hiring mistake". Every organization has different criteria as part of their hiring philosophies. For me, the ability to hire individuals that are looking for an opportunity to prove that they can excel but their resume may not be "the right resume" has proven to be right decision for me far more than not. The "safe hire" is typically not the "right hire". #recruiting #hiring #culture #tb12 #nfl #nfldraft

TB12 has won 7 Super Bowls! … and is the best QB in history hands down! NO IN THE MIX.

Without a doubt the dog with the biggest bark in the litter maybe not be the dog with the most bite…this hits home more recently then I care to remember

Brady also had the unmeasurables: Kept the receipts that fueled his competitive drive; rare elite person who also elevated his teammates (Captain Class); adaptability within the game, season and career. Also those things that can’t be found in a resume or cover letter, much like his combine…

Much like the NFL the industry has a tendency to sometimes rely too much on optics & less on actual ability/intangibles. Brady didn't look the part but the measurables they couldn't quantify were his heart & his drive.
