Monday morning and I am sitting at the airport for 15th time this year, patiently waiting my departure to SF. This time for Gilead Sciences Day & in order to present with my co-authors our work on MAIC (https://lnkd.in/eH3MsWSD). The only thing that makes this trip different to all others, it is that my body started reacting to the information on flying once again. And this is not the end, three more domestic trips will add to both my excitement, but also tiredness until the end of the year.
During the weekend, I was challenging myself on what might have been better: A) me flying all these miles to stand for 2h next to a poster? Or B) investing this money to 2-3 local trainings related to my team’s development. Since I have learned to respect decisions made at a much higher level, receiving acknowledgement and say, “thank you”, I will not publicly position myself on what would have been better.
However, after 48h of thinking, I recognized that the beauty of challenging ourselves is that we can only become better and improve the way we see things. Therefore, the initial simplistic perspective of “sitting next to a poster for 2h” (#FixedMindset), it can be transformed to something more productive, driven by #GrowthMindset (https://lnkd.in/eVyWv-7Y), like:
- Having 2h time to convince even one colleague of doing things differently, while they interpret and compare results between different studies
- Connecting with global stakeholders, create feasibility for my team and open the path for recognition of their work
- Investing time with my peers in SF, since every trip brings us closer, and through those interactions, we can better deliver to our patients and internal customers
- Use the 10+ hours flight to read, learn, improve & share knowledge with all
So, the next hours will be full of coffee, reading, LinkedIn posts, as well as prays for a safe pass over Greenland. Happy Monday to all!
