Tumors in this area of the brain can cause catastrophic damage to a patient's quality of life. Patients that end up with panhypopituitarism and/or subsequent hypothalamic damage have some of the lowest quality of life scores of all brain tumor patients. There is also a significant lack of understanding of the importance of HGH across the lifespan and how deficiency contributes significantly to cardiovascular events, extremely high rates of cholesterol, and fatty liver disease. Sex hormones are often considered "not necessary" to replace based on age, contributing to an astronomical increase in the risk of cardiovascular disease and poor bone density for females. If they become large enough to damage the hypothalamus, patients may be left with narcolepsy, insipidus, an inability to control body temperature, and hypothalamic obesity, which cannot be managed by general calorie restriction and exercise. We need more research and better care for those who suffer from damage to their HPA axis. Benign is not fine
