No focus, less achievement
How’s your focus?

No focus, less achievement

Many of you know that I am always talking about the need to focus and without it we struggle to achieve the goals we set ourselves. Well, I have a confession to make; for the past 12 months I have had trouble finding focus on some critical tasks myself – never thought I’d say that but its inescapable, I wasn’t getting some of the things done that are important to me, specifically my publishing.

So what’s the problem?

As you’d expect, its not rocket science, I have just been trying to do too many things. I have succumbed to the spinning plate syndrome, the idea that each major area of your life sits on a plate, and you juggle them all like spinning tops. It’s a simple concept, but if you have too many plates its very difficult to keep them all spinning. So you have some decisions to make.

What to keep and what to let go?

You’ll need to be quite mercenary about this. If an activity doesn’t serve your main game, let it go. This shouldn’t be too hard but it often is. We often have a lot of spinning plates because we like them, and its hard to let something you like go. But free yourself you must, and then go to work and be ruthless.

Cleansing activity is rejuvenating

Ever moved house? Most of us will do this a few times and when we do it is an opportunity to cleanse ourselves and our houses of ‘stuff’ we no longer need. As it is when we shift focus, we get the chance to clean out our brains, our mental filing cabinets and ditch what we no longer need if we are going to live the life we have designed for ourselves. How do we decide what goes and what stays?

Well, to start, take a long hard look at yourself 😊

In this context, reflection is the key to enlightenment and this requires commitment to the process. If you are going to give yourselves the best chance of success, you need to be pretty mercenary with your time in order to achieve your goals. If you are, you will find the focus you need because anything else simply gets in the way and stalls or eliminates progress.

I have been, I got some help to publish my stuff, and that’s why you are reading it now.

So what are you going to do? Clear your decks now, and focus on what matters, or miss an opportunity?
