The large, yellow fruit weighs 1 pound (454 g) and has a luscious red exterior and centre. Old German is one of the best-tasting slicers you can grow, despite its unusual shape. It's from the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia, and it's from the mid-nineteenth century.
