ASSOCIATES OF APPLIED SCIENCE IN
DIAGNOSTIC MEDICAL SONOGRAPHY

Ultrasound

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES:

The student will be trained in anatomy & physiology with medical terminology incorporated, general college mathematics, lifespan development, communications, ultrasound physics, and imaging specialties such as OB/GYN, abdominal, breast, echo, and vascular sonography.

As a Sonographer, the student will train to be able to provide patient services in a variety of medical settings using medical ultrasound under the supervision of a physician. The student will be trained to perform ultrasound studies as ordered by physicians for their patients. The student will be trained to perform appropriate procedures and record anatomical, pathological, and physiological data and other pertinent observations made during the procedures.

After completing the didactic or campus portion of their program, the student will attend an externship for a total of 945 hours (three semesters).  This will allow the student to apply the principles obtained during the sonography program.

After the completion of the physics course, the student will be eligible to take the Sonography Principles & Instrumentation (SPI) examination through the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonographers. 

When all requirements are met and the student has officially graduated from the program, they will qualify to take the RDMS, RDCS, or RVT registries. 

Students should complete the program in 7 semesters for day class schedules, or 10 semesters for the night class schedules.

THE STUDENT MUST COMPLETE:

  • 86 Credit Hours

  • Successfully complete each course with a minimum of 75% (GPA 2.0)

  • Achieve 80% on lab participation

  • 945 hours of clinical experience in a clinical or hospital (This rotation is will be completed the last three semesters of enrollment)

  • After graduation, the student must complete one year of clinical sonography to be eligible for the ARDMS specialty examinations

Day Class Schedule: Monday, Tuesdays & Wednesdays

8:00 am - 4:00 pm

Length of the Program: 26 months (110 weeks)

Night Class Schedule: Monday, Tuesdays & Wednesdays

4:30 pm - 9:00 pm

Length of the Program: 36 months (155 weeks)

REQUIREMENTS TO ENROLL:

  • The applicant must first take and pass the Accuplacer examination

  • Provide copy of their current government issued picture ID

  • Provide copy of their valid social security card

  • Provide official high school transcripts

  • ​Provide official college transcripts (if applicable)

  • Applicants will also submit an official essay with their application and attend an interview prior to acceptance into the program
