Who was that orange-bikini-clad girl?
She’s “American Idol” contestant Katrina Darrell and she got the show’s eighth season off to a saucy start first with her barely there bathing suit, next by dissing new judge Kara DioGuardi and finally by”making out” with goofball host Ryan Seacrest.
After which, naturally, she let out a squeal and jumped into a nearby swimming pool .
So why the bikini?
“I came dressed in my bathing suit to American idol because, first of all, I figured it would set me apart from the crowd, and secondly because I heard it was a crazy audition process and I figured, well, at least I’ll have a tan,” Darrell said as the camera cut to a shot of her lounging poolside.
She came on to Seacrest in a big way announcing she’d already chosen names for their children and that they were going”make out.”
A flustered Seacrest managed to say he thought smooch session might be against show rules but,”the thought of it is something I’m going to hang on to.”
Judge Simon Cowell‘s eyes bugged out as the tanned Darrell flounced into the audition room and launched into warbly rendition of Mariah Carey‘s”Vision of Love.”
And that’s when new judge Kara DioGuardi had had enough.
She belted out a few bars herself telling Darrell she had no swing. “Honestly, you don’t have the chops to sing that song, sweetie,” DioGuardi said.
Not missing a beat, Darrell shot back,”But your demonstration wasn’t any better.”
Ouch! DioGuardi and Paula Abdul both shot out of their seats and it looked like “Idol’s” new judge might get into a serious belting battle with the bikini singer – but the ever-nurturing Abdul stepped in.
Despite Abdul and DioGuardi’s calling her singing “terrible,” Darrell made it through to Hollywood – so we might still see that showdown.
